RECAP

Juho Lipsanen noted at the start of his presentation that he is, with a bit over one year, the longest serving President of TeliaSonera Finland, so it has been a fairly "windy" post. TeliaSonera Finland has gone through some tough times, at least partly because the mobile telecom market in Finland is rate wise perhaps the most competitive in the world. with fees lowest in OECD countries, about a half of those in Sweden and a third of the Japanese fees.

TeliaSonera is the leading telecommunications company in the Nordic and Baltic region and also holds strong positions in mobile communications in Eurasia, Turkey and Russia, with a client base of almost 100 million. The company was created in 2002 through a merger between Telia of Sweden and Sonera of Finland.

Mr. Lipsanen aslo touched upon the mobile number portability, which is a timely subject in Japan as it took effect here this week. In Finland, number portability came into effect in July 2003. The portability was quite much similar to that in Japan, i.e. the number is portable, but not many of the services related to the number.
