Friday 17 April - Joint Nordic Business Luncheon organized by the SCCJ
Guest Speaker:
Mr. Tommy Kullberg, Chairman, European Business Council (EBC)
Theme: "The art of adding a zero to your business....!"
Summary
Tommy Kullberg spoke at the luncheon partly as the EBC Chairman, partly as a business executive and consultant having been - among many, many other things - instrumental in the very successful launchings of IKEA and H&M in Japan.
Kullberg pointed out that no-one should forget that Japan is still the world's second largest economy and through its influence it is involved in 2/3:s of the Asia-Pacific economy. Japanese household average assets amounts to 34 mill. yen and average household income is 535,000 yen. Taking into account that only 25% of Japan's area is suitable for living, nowhere there is so much money per square meter!
As for EBC, one current issue is the Economic Integration Agreement (EIA) between EU and Japan, for which Keidanren has shown its support. Mr. Kullberg also urged the chamber members that have not yet joined any of the 26 sector committees in EBC to do so. Not only can they in the committees promote de-regulation and other issues of importance, but also meet and discuss with representatives from other companies in their sector.
The luncheon, attended by 74 persons, of which 14 from the FCCJ, was ended with an active Q&A session.
