  ISSUE 22/2002

2 July, 2002

Dear !*SALUTATION*! !*LAST_NAME*!,

Now the World Cup is over, so we have to try to fill our evenings with something else...
Fortunately everthing went fine, despite the almost hysterical fear in Japan of hooliganism. Also from a sporting point of view I think most agree that the best team took the trophy.
At our luncheon meeting (read more below) we had very interesting discussions relating to this subject, unfortunately we ran out of time, because I think we easily could have had another hour of Q & A.

Report from June Luncheon Meeting
The June Luncheon meeting held on Thursday 27th, had a very timely theme, football!
Pekka Hämäläinen
We had the pleasure to have two experts on this theme as our guest speakers, Pekka Hämäläinen, President and Teuvo Holopainen, General Secretary of the Football Federation of Finland.
They were accompanied by a delegation of 8 persons, representing Finnish Sports organizations and the FAF sponsors. Our thanks to Finnair for sponsoring their luncheon participation!

The United Smile
In their presentations, Mr. Hämäläinen gave a historic background to the game of soccer, and it's present dimensions and influence, and Mr. Holopainen described the present targets for Finnish Football, most notable the bid for the joint Nordic EURO 2008 Cup, the "United Smile" (for more on this, click the image).

As for the current World Cup, our guests had only positive comments, praising the organization as excellent. As for a question raised from the audience regarding the much debated referreeing at some games, Mr. Hämäläinen pointed out that the job of the referee is very difficult in todays fast game, and some unexperinced referees might be affected by a very noisy home crowd. But to suggest that there would be any kind of "plot" from FIFA to help the organizing countries succeed, he claimed is pure nonsense.

Grin of the Week
Things you'd love to say at work...
Hot and humid weather sometimes makes us all frustrated and hot tempered. In case you need to let out some pressure, why dont you use one of these...;-)
  • I'm really easy to get along with once you people learn to see it my way.
  • I'll try being nicer if you'll try being smarter.
  • It sounds like English, but I can't understand a word you're saying.
  • I like you. You remind me of when I was young and stupid.
  • I'm already visualizing the duct tape over your mouth.
  • The fact that no one understands you doesn't mean you're an artist.
  • I'm not being rude. You're just insignificant.
  • This isn't an office. It's Hell with fluorescent lighting.
  • Sarcasm is just one more service we offer.
  • Errors have been made. Others will be blamed.

  • That's all for now. As many of my readers are, or soon going, on holiday, the next bulletin would be sent in a couple of weeks time so that I don't fill your mailbox while you are out. But our office is open, so feel free to contact any time.

    Have a nice week &
    Best regards

    Clas G. Bystedt
